Searching For Reliable Boston Guitar Repair

By Anthony Ellis

Many guitarists will at some point need to have some repair work done to their instrument. There are various things that can go wrong with acoustic and electric guitars and there are a few important things for you to consider before having work done. There are a few options available to you when you are looking for reliable boston guitar repair and there are a few things you can do yourself to keep your instrument in good condition.

Guitar stores in Boston Massachusetts are one of the best places to visit when you need your instrument repairing. Most stores will have a good repair and inspection service and they will look after your instrument. Yearly checkups and setups are also offered by the majority of reputable music stores and this will help to avoid problems with your instrument.

There are also a large number of online repair companies available to guitarists and in many cases this option is more convenient. You need to speak with them and explain the problems and they will arrange to get your instrument collected and taken to them. If guitars are to be taken by a road courier they need to be fully insured in case they are lost or damaged whilst they are in transit.

The prices charged for repair work will be dictated by the type of fault or damage. Little problems such as a defective tuner or a missing fret will not be costly and will be a quick fix. Bigger problems such as a full neck replacement or arch top restoration will be more expensive and the work will take much longer.

If you have an electric guitar it should undergo a yearly inspection to keep it in good order. The neck needs to be oiled and the body cleaned and any dings touched up. The pickups and electrical wiring should also be properly cleaned and checked for wear. Strings should be changed regularly and this will help to keep good tension on the neck.

Acoustic guitars also need maintenance and much of this can be done in your home. The wood should be kept free from dust and the tuners need to be well lubricated with a specialist oil. If you keep a guitar out of its hard case it should be kept on a suitable stand and not leaning against a wall as this can warp the neck.

There are some simple things that you can do to ensure your guitar is in good condition and in a playable state. Your instrument should be stored in its hard case when it is not being used to prevent knocks and damage. When you finish a playing session the guitar should be wiped with a dry cloth before putting it away.

If you need to store your instrument away for a long period of time there are a few important things to be done beforehand. Always clean your instrument before putting it into storage and keep it away from direct sunlight. Another useful tip is to use a packet of silica gel in the case which will absorb moisture that may be present.
