Band Or Mobile Wedding DJ? And Other Questions

By Marissa Velazquez

Getting engaged is a huge, exciting event in one's life, and the wedding is an even bigger event. In between, however, comes the planning. Putting a wedding together can be a fun, but it can also be very stressful. It presents many questions, such as whether to hire a wedding planner, how many people to invite, how to cater the event, who should be in the party, and whether to hire a band or a mobile wedding DJ.

Hire a wedding planner, or plan the event on your own? This often becomes a simple question of time and money. Some people find that the extra cost of hiring outside help is worthwhile for the time and hassle it saves. However, others have a limited budget that does not allow for a planner. Some people also enjoy making arrangements on their own, or enlisting the help of trusted siblings, friends or cousins.

How many people should I invite? Money is a big factor in deciding this question as well. It can get very complicated if you have a huge family but a limited budget. For a couple in this predicament, it might be a good idea to limit attendance to immediate family and very close friends.

Where should you have the ceremony and the reception? If you are religious, you may want to have the ceremony in a place of worship. Sometimes this costs money, as some churches and other religious buildings require that they people who get married there are members or undergo counseling before the ceremony. This is something to explore and consider. Cost is of course a factor, so you will want to check prices and find out which venues, churches, etc. Are available for a price that fits your budget.

What kind of food should I serve? Lots of couple choose to hire a professional catering service that provides a full meal or a buffet. If the budget does not allow for this, however, you could serve only cocktails and finger foods, or have a meal cooked by relatives or friends.

Who should you include in the wedding party? Many fights erupt over this question. If you envision hurt feelings and arguments over this issue, consider limiting your wedding party to one person for each member of the couple. Ask other friends and family members to help in different ways.

DJ or Band? A DJ is usually cheaper than hiring a full band, unless you happen to know a member of a wedding band who is willing to cut you a deal. However, if you envision a very classy reception and have the budget to hire a band, by all means, go for it.

If you know a mobile wedding dj, he or she might also play for a lower cost. Start talking to people as soon as possible. If you get your planning going early, it can help to avoid the added stress of making decisions at the last minute. You want your planning to be a good memory, rather than an unpleasant one.
