Tracking Down A Pearl Harbor Historian

By Marci Glover

When people are looking to learn a little about World War II, they should look for a good historian. In fact, a Pearl Harbor historian will know quite a bit about the events that led up to it. History buffs will appreciate talking to a professional. They can learn a bit about why the conflict began in the first place and how it eventually ended.

The credentials will be important. Men and women who have gotten an advanced degree from Harvard or Yale, for example, will usually be great to talk. In fact, graduates will have shown that they can handle the coursework. Many of them will also have produced new information that will be useful to them as they move forward in their careers.

A basic understanding of what happened at Pearl Harbor will also be important. When the Japanese attacked that day, they set in motion a series of events that would change the world. The battle transformed the planet and brought on a conflict that would see millions of people wiped out. The ships from the US navy that survived the attack would be back to fight another day.

Many of the wrecks are still there. The USS Arizona, in fact, has become a memorial site that is visited by people all across the world. Thousands of people fly into to take a look at the final resting place for many soldiers and sailors. The memorial itself is in the water, but it is not hard to get to. Guided tours are offered at regular intervals.

Good historians will also have a great idea of how the survivors dealt with the trauma. Many of them, of course, enlisted later in the war after they recovered from their wounds. These men and women were hugely important in bringing Japan to its knees. Their stories are very important and have been documented by oral historians over the years.

Individuals who wish to visit the area today should begin by booking a flight from the mainland. Because Hawaii is tropical, the weather is nice during all portions of the year. People from all over the world fly in to enjoy the historic site. The location is particularly popular with Japanese tourists.

The best historians have written books and articles on what happened on that day in December in 1941. By going to the local library, most interested parties should be able to find the information they are looking for. They might even check out a few history books to show to their children and grandchildren. Carrying on the legacy of the battle will be very important indeed.

In the end, tracking down a good historian is quite easy. With some good research, individuals can learn about World War II and the carnage associated with it. The memorial in Hawaii is one place they'll want to visit if they ever get the chance. If not, they can still open a range of publications that will fill them in on the details.
