Amber is also used to make jewelry but is not in reality a stone. Even though it is not considered a stone by scientific definition, a lot of folks give it the classification of gemstone. People in the Middle East believed the stone symbolized courage.

Amethyst is another beautifully colored stone. It is purple and used to make many different accessories. There was a time when this stone was considered extremely valuable. Over time the stones lost their value. This was mainly due to a huge supply that was discovered in Brazil. The find has made the stones more affordable for folks.

The historical belief attached to the amethyst was that it kept folks from getting too intoxicated. The wives tale stated that folks would not get drunk if they drank alcoholic beverages from a cup made from amethyst. More commonly, it is believed the stone provides spiritual insight and promotes good behavior. In addition, it is thought that people who wear the stone are more honest and have a peaceful and quiet mind.
