Discover Some Engrossing Features About Churches And Its Evolution

By Timothy Reed

Men and women today who were brought up by religious parents or family members are often familiar with churches. These places are established with the purpose of creating a secure spot for people who share similar beliefs to come together and worship as one. This is to honor their gods, whom they believe is responsible for giving them the life that they live.

The two main purposes of these places was to provide an area where they could pray and worship their god. You can easily spot these places due to the large cross they will erect on top of it. If you want to learn some more fascinating details regarding Fort Lauderdale Churches, continue reading below.

In ancient tradition, these buildings not only contained crosses, the buildings were crosses themselves. In many religions, this symbol is often considered holy and significant, why is why they make use of it excessively and in various formats. In fact, some buildings used the longest portion of it to stretch across the aisle until it reached the altar where the base could be found.

The first church is estimated to have been built sometime between 223 to 256. While they did not have a specific label back then like how it is now, it was during the 11th century that men and women first got the idea to build cathedrals and small parishes for worship. This started in the western portion of Europe where the cathedrals were used by practitioners of other religions like Roman Catholics, Western Orthodox, Anglicans, and more.

During the time that the Old Testament took place, it was a common sight in Christian ruled places for men and women of all ages to come together in houses to talk about the teachings of their god. When too many people showed up, they would often get up and go to the nearest synagogue instead, which is another location for worship.

During one thousand to one thousand and two hundred AD, a new style emerged across Europe. It was called Romanesque architecture, and was built upon the architectural traditions that the Romans used during that time. Its identifying traits include a circular arch, having octagonal shaped towers, as well as having a groined vault. It was during this time period that the rooms were made wider and more attention to detail was put into sculptures that decorated the area.

Once the excitement of Romanesque started to die down, another style that emerged from France become a common trend. This style is called Gothic architecture, and it focused primarily in its use of symbols, rather than emphasizing on beautification. Today, you can tell when a structure is influenced by it because they use buttresses, install rib vaults, and use pointed arches.

During the fifteenth century, more changes were made due to the reformation of society. As a result, the Renaissance period came to be. While it appeared to have many similarities to Gothic designed buildings, it omitted a number of other details. In the past, basilica structures were all the rage, but was eventually replaced with hall churches.

As the years went by, more and more churches or cathedrals were built, and those that were there before them were often left forgotten. In an effort to avoid wasting the structure, the government and tourism organizations have worked hand in hand to its conversion. Some are being used for meetings, while some have become historical museums.
