Why Rehearsal Strategies Help In Boosting Memory

By Kimberly Green

Different tutors use different methods in training their students to learn better. This includes live video conferences, social media platforms and other ordinary learning materials. As long as they are giving the right information, they have every right to use any method they find convenient. Since the world is slowly changing, different strategies need to be involved to keep up with the latest trends. One method that has become popular for use by teachers is known as rehearsal strategies.

This method of teaching involves use of repetitive information that you have been taught to boost your learning. It can be summarized in a list or a diagram so that you can easily remember it. The tutor can read it in an audible manner or sub vocalize it so that learners can repeat after him. Each time the student repeats this information it becomes engraved in their heads. It becomes relevant when you want to master a combination to your safe or social security number.

Singing along while reading something is one great way of learning how to master it. This strategy has worked well for small kids who are being taught how to name animals. Each time they hear the song, they are inclined to remember what they have been taught in class. In other instances, the teacher can involve use of body language or gestures to facilitate better memory.

Mastering information solely depends on your ability to put numbers or words in a certain order. For instance, if you are asked to state the last four digits of your social security number, you will be forced to interconnect the first ones to it. That is a good way of doing this. Some people work better in quiet places in comparison to others that can work in places that play loud music.

As a student, it is normal for you to forget everything you have just been taught in a second. When this occurs, you need to practice on your mastering skills. This can only be achieved through continuous practice. Thereafter, you can conduct a review on everything you have learnt.

It is important for learners to differentiate between understanding and remembering. Most teachers prefer to teach students to understand rather than cramming. That way, they are able to interpret questions even if they are twisted. This is important for technical subjects that rely on the use of formulas to come up with answers.

There are certain students who are considered as slow learners. Once they have been taught, they cannot contain the information any further. They need teachers that can help them to remember. Most of them advocate for using methodologies such as highlighting, underlining and taking a few notes. Thereafter, they can summarize the whole content using valuable information.

Different learning techniques may work for specific students. However, it is important for tutors to learn to use different approaches so that all students can benefit. Those who lack the ability to store information in their brain for long need to use written materials or to highlight important points that are easy to remember.
