How To Identify A Contemporary Impressionist Artist

By Debra Fisher

When it comes to current art styles, one of the most popular is that of modern. Whereas, when looking for art resembling that of the French Impressionists, an individual might want to look for a contemporary impressionist artist. For, these individuals work with the same techniques of the French Impressionist Masters.

Some well known and respected artists working during the original period include, Frederic Bazille, Marc Chagall, Edgar Degas, Paul Cezanne, Claude Monet and August Renoir. To gain a better perspective of these artists, most have works hanging in galleries and art museums around the world. As such, one of the best ways to see the works of these amazing artists is to visit one of these locations.

At the same time, for those whom can not make it to a museum, a number of works are now available to view online. While this is the case, it can often be hard to see the same effects with regards to light and shadow which is highly visible in the original paintings. Whatever the case, in order to understand current artists working in this genre, one has to understand the concept provided by the original paintings.

Like the original impressionists, contemporaries working in this genre use a great deal of light and shadow. While having passed in 2012, a good example of this type of contemporary impressionist art are paintings by Thomas Kinkaid, often known as the painter of light. In addition, like the French Impressionists, who were considered Radicals, paintings are created using freshly brushed colors which takes precedence over contours and lines.

Individuals working in this genre often prefer to paint outdoors, as did the original French Impressionists. In many cases, these artists can be seen painting on canvas in gardens, parks or on hills overlooking the ocean. For, these areas often provide a great deal of scenery which can be captured and captivating in paintings.

Whether using a natural backdrop or fixed pose, no other artists have been able to create the effects of the French Impressionists or a number of contemporaries, such as Mr. Kinkaid. As such, many current paintings resemble those of the French Impressionist Masters. While at the same time, each has a style that is often unusual and unique to each artist.

For, contemporary impressionism is an art form that basically uses a method in which light and color play off one another. The method, to use varying colors and the feel of immediacy and movement which brings the painting to life. After which, it is as if viewers are looking at the crashing of an ocean wave, the light from the moon or the glow of a lamplight.

In the case of the early French Impressionists, there were many critics who disapproved of the style. Whereas, there were others whom believed the style captured originality and vision. It is now up to the contemporaries of these original artists to inspire future generations by creating new masterpieces, using the techniques of the French Impressionist Masters.
