By Gloria Mason

History classes should teach all students about famous Italian singers. These are very important people to remember who often bring joy into many people's lives. Every American citizen has heard about such great singers like Frankie Laine, Perry Como, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Franks Sinatra, Vic Damone and Luciano Pavarotti.

Frank Sinatra was known to everyone as "Ol Blue Eyes" and people all over the world loved his music. This man was the king of jazz music and he had very famous people following him around. Frank was married several times to different actresses and none of the unions lasted very long because of his Hollywood lifestyle. His marriages were quite reckless but his entertainment skills were excellent.

Another very popular man was Mr. Dean Martin who was also an actor during most of his career. He would team up with the great Jerry Lewis to film several movies each year during the 1950's and all of these collaborations were very successful at the box office. Dean was also a great "ladies man" who loved to date many of the beautiful women who lived in California and New York.

Tony Bennett has a voice that is truly magic and this is the main reason that all of his concerts sell out quickly. Mr. Bennett is a native New Yorker who was born under the name Anthony Dominick Benedetto which is very hard to remember. This is the reason that he changed his name in the 50's when his career first started to take off. Younger people have become fans of his work and they will usually buy all of his recordings.

Perino Ronald Como is better known as "Perry Como" and he was a very popular singer born many years ago. He worked as a barber before signing with a major record company in 1943. He was the star of his own television variety show and has sold millions of records during his career. People could relate to this man since he was so "down to earth" and lived a very normal life.

Jerry Vale was born Gennaro Luigi Vitaliano in the Bronx, New York. He used to perform for family and friends as a child and had always wanted to sing professionally. His dream came true after an employer heard him singing while shining shoes. The employer liked what he heard and sent the young man to a music teacher and the rest is history.

There was a magical musical couple named Vic Damone and Diahann Carroll. They entertained all of their Hollywood friends on a daily basis with their unique singing style. Vito Rocco Farinola was Mr. Damone's birth name and he first made his entrance into the world in a borough called Brooklyn.

Luciano Pavarotti is one of the most famous Italian singers who was known world wide. He lived his life to the fullest and was considered to be one of the greatest tenors ever. He was born in Italy and originally wanted to play on a football team. He traveled all around the globe entertaining people before his untimely death 2007.
