Taking Care Of Virgin Brazilian Hair Extensions

By Dawn Williams

Weaves or hairpieces can be beautiful as well as natural looking. Those that are applied with care, are professionally done, and the tresses are smooth and silky are a great thing to show off. For these reasons, virgin Brazilian hair extensions are becoming a preference for those who like to wear weaves and or have longer hair.

For many decades now, people have tried to get the natural look with many application techniques and types of tresses that may be bought. Though some were able to achieve this with expensive trips to the salon or high maintenance methods that included the use of special shampoos and conditioners, this was not enough. However, this did inspire leaders of the beauty industry to seek better quality hair for the consumer.

One area where users tend to get confused is the fact that these need care as well as their own natural locks it is attached to. Some wearers sacrifice one for the other, which can lead to disastrous results. Either the extensions are ruined, it becomes dry and brittle or breaks off at the scalp.

The truth is that there is no one way to maintain extensions as it also depends on the wearers hair type and condition. Anyone with oily tresses and scalp should use a powder shampoo to clean their scalp. These can be washed weekly with a mild shampoo. It is best to wash using slow strokes from the scalp all the way down to the edges.

Every wash should be followed up with a light conditioner and deep conditioning should be done at least once a month. If the tresses are dry or colored, deep conditioning can be done every other week. Be certain to wash out all hair products with every shampoo so there is no buildup, which can damage the scalp underneath.

When drying, it is best to blot with a thick towel. Air drying is best to maintain its natural wave pattern. However, if the natural locks are thick or the user does not want to leave home with a wet scalp, they can set their hand dryer on low with special attention to certain areas.

The extensions should be combed out carefully using a comb with wide teeth or a brush designed for maintaining extensions. After shampooing, it is best to start by separating into quarter sections or smaller. From there, comb carefully working each section until it is untangled. For extra dry tresses, this is the time to apply a light oil or moisturizer scalp.

Unless the wearer wants to lose the wave pattern and go completely straight, heating tools should be avoided. Curling irons may be used sparingly and if adhesives or bonding solution was used to apply the extensions, follow directions to avoid loosening or damage. Anyone who is considering this look should have a healthy head of hair that is well conditioned. A good cosmetologist can make recommendations to anyone who wants to wear virgin Brazilian hair extensions but may have challenges such as breakage or thinning.
