A Brief Look At The Plot Of The Monuments Men Book

The novel, The Monuments Men Book may be described as one of the greatest treasure hunt production of all time. This novel, written against the backdrop of World War II has a captivating storyline that outlines the plot by the German dictator, Adolf Hitler to rid Europe and in the process the Western World, of its culture and history. All literature and reading fanatics just have to find time to experience this awesome story.

A plan had been formulated by Adolf Hitler, to use his armies to capture and destroy the art that formed a huge part of the culture of Europe. In the process of doing this, he intended to completely destroy the history of the west. This plan, as shall be noted later on in the novel, will not really materialize.

Hitler had created a catalogue containing a god number of art pieces that he thought were offensive enough to be destroyed. He also set a time limit within which this goal was to be achieved and sent his armies to do the actual deed. Meanwhile, he was pursuing his campaign of conquering the western world.

Everything gets interesting when a special group of American and British curators and museum directors get together in a campaign to save the items marked for destruction from the Nazis. This rescue group also included art historians. The 7-man unit formed by this group is normally referred to with the same name that forms the title of this novel.

The goal of this unit was to get to different art collections before the Nazis got hold of them. This mission may seem clear cut but in reality; it was quite a challenge. Going behind enemy lines and risking lives for the sake of culture is not what can be termed as easy. The whole campaign took lots of courage and bravery from the Special Forces.

The entire mission was to either pull off successfully or fail miserably within an 11-month period. A movie starring George, Matt Damon and actresses such as Cate Blanchet has also been produced based on this novel. While most people may prefer to watch the movie instead of first reading the book, at times the actual novel may be more interesting.

You may have heard certain persons saying that there is no greater pleasure than that experienced when reading a captivating novel. This may seem a little over the top, especially to non-readers, but to reading fanatics, this is the actual reality. Unlike movies, the actual scripts are normally full of details and emotions that may not always be captured by visual productions. This alone could be taken as a motivation to buy a copy of this great piece of work.

Literature fanatics could use this brief outlook to feed the curiosity that they may have pertaining The Monuments Men Book and all it is about. The actual experience would however be felt only when either the novel or the movie is purchased and reviewed. In this way, the feel of what the entire plot revolves around would be experienced at a personal level.
