Release Your Creativity With Abstract Watercolor Painting

By Eliza Mendoza

There is something invigorating about getting in touch with your artistic side and whether you have any natural talent or not, paintings will help you to understand a little more about your personality. Abstract watercolor painting can be whatever you want it to be, whether you are a collector or an artist yourself, so why not embrace it.

Different people prefer different mediums and while oil paint can be a very difficult style and material to get used to and learn, watercolors are relatively easy and very adaptable to the person. Practice is important for the individual to get used to the paint and water balance, as too much water can ruin the finish product. However, it is very fun to practice with.

Many people who start out using these materials find that landscapes are the easiest subject to master first. The watery paint lends itself perfectly to rolling hills, luxurious sea views and the multiple colors of flowers and various different landscapes. If you make a mistake it is barely noticeable and abstract art is more of a matter of personal expression than of covering up mistakes.

Animals can often be a difficult task for the novice watercolor artist as they typically attempt to recreate the finer details of the animal. While this can look wonderful, it is not the natural style that these paints lend themselves to and a more fluid style is often more effective. Artists should focus on the lines of the animals and try to recreate the natural movement within their own image.

Constructing portraits in watercolors is quite a challenge, but once the artist understand his or her own style it becomes a very satisfying challenge. Practice is essential to move from amateur paintings to true art and once the basics have been established the artist can then begin to play around with abstract styles. Mastering the basics allows the artist to make this step effectively.

Abstract is much more than simply blurring the lines and letting the imagination do the rest of the work. It is about redefining the style and letting the imagination construct something new and unique. This allows the admirer of the piece of artwork to explore their preconceptions of the topic or subject. This is not something that just anyone can create.

Viewing art is all about interpretation. Each artist brings something different and each individual brings something different when they view it. We all bring our own experiences and perceptions to the table when we interpret art and this is something that the artist needs to consider when they are painting. To leave the painting open to interpretation is essential.

Abstract watercolor painting can be anything from a part time hobby to a very satisfying and successful career. It is important to put the heart and soul into each piece, to ensure that it is filled with emotion and meaning as this will always be interpreted by art appreciators. Those pieces that are superficial are always obvious and few people can connect with them.
