Why One Should Have Muay Thai Shorts

By Wanda Rosner

Muay thai can be classified as a very ancient type of mixed martial arts (MMA). It originated in Thailand around the 18th century. Like other types of martial arts, muay thai requires the extreme engagement of arms and legs. Swift movement is an invaluable property in any fight and thus one has to have clothing that permit them to be as fast as possible. This is why muay thai shorts were introduced.

These shorts permit fast movements of legs, which is very important in fights. One can be able to throw kicks and knees with maximum force, as there is no hindrance from pulling on their thighs. This also makes them to have greater pace in their attacks and it enables them to dodge attacks much faster. This would be impossible if they used long trunks, which would only slow them down.

Everyone wants to be comfortable in what they do. This is also true for fighters as they need to be as comfortable in their clothing as possible to perform optimally in a match. Failure to do so might see them struggle to deliver their strikes and place in their blocks due to the discomfort. People who want to have a feel of what fighters feel can also wear them casually.

Many designs and varieties of these pants exist today. One can go over the different designs over the internet or if you are in Thailand, you can go over them in the local markets. The distinctive patterns of these pants are attributed the muay thai culture but some creative people come up with their own designs. The patterns usually portray unity and peace and fighting as a last resort to solving problems.

Protection is also another reason why fighters prefer such shorts. While shopping around, you may think all shorts look the same but you have to find the perfect fit. A loose fit is the best as it is ideal for the intense action. They are also designed to give maximum protection without compromising on pace and agility.

Resistance to wear and tear is crucial to any attire in a fight. Since martial arts involves a lot of kicking, the shorts have to be able to withstand tearing under the great force. This is made possible by using fabric that is slickly, soft and elastic. There is a wide range of these fabrics and this might cause the prices to vary.

Some fighters tend to use fasteners to keep their pants in place. This is not one of the best ways since these fasteners besides failing in their function can cause a lot of harm to the fighter. You may find it is usual for fighters to complain of bruised waists and it is mainly due to these fasteners. Thai pants though, have a flexible waistband that poses no harm to the fighter.

The shorts also tend to be very light. This will prevent one from dragging their attacks due to heavy clothing. This lightness also serves to increase their reaction time and increase their comfort and convenience levels.
