Religious Versus Spiritual Romance Novels

By Christa Jarvis

When it comes to religious novels, there are often characters based on the Christian faith. In many cases. Religious novels are nothing more than a ploy to gain other believers. Whereas, most Spiritual Romance Novels tend to be more all inclusive and include positive aspects from many different spiritual paths which may include Christian, but is often inclusive of other faiths.

For some, spirituality has nothing to do with religion, for others everything. Depending on the type of story, characters can drift away and back towards God as part of issues within any given relationship. While fiction, these novels often have an avid sense of belief and are often written to spread the so-called word of God.

Many titles related to Christianity and spirituality are non-fiction, though some also include allegorical tales. So, what are some of the best of these titles on the market today? The Celestine Prophecy by Redfield, published 1993 is a good reference for Christian novels. A number of novels based in the Christian faith can be found as free e-books online.

Titles like Jonathan Livingston Seagull, The Spiritual Laws of Success, Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah and others are quite popular among Comparative Theologians worldwide. While, a number of Christian based authors only read the Bible and other publications related to the faith. Regardless as to whether one holds the same beliefs as an author, some novels can often still be quite insightful, inspirational and intriguing.

All of these and other titles look into different religious beliefs and pathways while taking the reader on a journey of the soul. In some cases, its as if the book is a time machine which can be set to past, present or future. Depending on the individual's past experience, some titles may be more inviting than others.

A good way to approach any book, whether fact or fiction, is to have an open mind. Readers need also realize that while a book may be written in a tone based on the author's faith, that no one is asking one to change belief systems or religions by simply reading a book. Although, in some cases, it can become clear quite quickly if the purpose of a book, like the Bible, is intended to spread the word of God, whether actually true or otherwise.

Books can provide a great escape from reality. While some may have religious tones, readers need to recognize that any book is most likely going to have aspects with which one may disagree. As this is the case, readers who maintain an open mind and can agree to disagree with authors from time to time, often read ore books.

One of the best places to peruse different titles in the religious or spiritual genre is online. There are a number of different free fiction and non-fiction e-books, many which can be accessed for free. When wishing to read reviews before taking on a title, the Goodreads website is a good place to search and read a variety of reviews and testimonials from other readers.
