There are quite a few career options out there for those who decide to pursue fashion design degrees. While there are those who may be driven to create their own unique designs, others may want to look at the business side of things. When it comes to the latter, I believe that it is important to discuss retail. Specifically, I'd like to go over 3 of the ways in which these very college graduates may excel in this particular field of work.
If you want to become a strong retail manager, or worker, you have to listen to what consumers have to say. No one can argue with the fact that everyone has different tastes, as they relate to fashion, which means that one consumer is not going to be treated exactly the same as another. Nonetheless, you should stay aware of what they desire. Once you have an idea of what they would like, that's when you can truly put your fashion-related prowess to use.
You should also be aware of how much assistance a particular guest would like. If you were to ask someone if they would like help, it would be wise to back off if they say that they are simply looking around. Pushing the issue does not make you look like a better salesperson, especially in fashion. Just be aware that if your knowledge is required, more often than not, you will be approached by someone who will require your guidance.
Finally, make sure that you understand that not every sale is going to go through successfully. Even if you are fully confident in your ability to sell any product to any consumer, the consumer in question may change their desires instantly. It's important to never look at this as a failure; instead, try to think of it as a learning experience. See what you have done wrong, in that particular instance, so that you may figure out how to do better next time.
Those who are passionate about fashion design are going to want to succeed in their respective fields. I am sure that those who are big into retail will find themselves utilizing the business sense that they have accumulated, whether it was through their previous education or the types of employment they've been involved in beforehand. Nonetheless, the room for movement up the ladder exists. It's just a matter of how much work you are willing to put in.
