Essential Instructions On How To Write A Stage Play

By Stella Gay

Professionalism in play writing ranges from the formatting and the style of presentation to the way you put the names of your characters, how you arrange the colon in front of each name and the words of each character. For your writing to appear more presentable, professional and well turned-out, you must ensure you understand the instructions on how to write a stage play. Each name should be placed in its own space, but you can also assign a new space when writing the directions or a word showing what is going on in the performance.

Bone Structure or Police File Model puts attributes of a character into three different groupings; physical, emotional and social. Things such as body weight, color of the skin, height, muscularity fall under physical. Education, hobbies, job, religion, family, history, living standard and all that goes with the place of a person in the social order fall under social while Emotional contains things like mental health and all the psychological aspects of a person.

Generally, the main idea of the story is surrounded by the chosen theme. You can opt to have the whole setting focus on a specific character, date, time, location, town or animal. The reason for formulating a theme is to aid you in putting ideas into the exact perspective and enhance the flow of your plot.

Second model entails creating age and gender then letting the character to act or behave in the way they wish. Thirdly, compromise elucidation flanked by first and second models, but not in terms of quality. Get your hands on the names and genders of your characters, then briefly create a definition for each and every one.

Generally, you should introduce your characters in the beginning of the plot especially the main ones. Other than the plot, theme and title, you must also decide on your setting, which normally involves location, surrounding, time and the background props being used. Regardless of what you pick on, your scenery is supposed to be conducive to time and location chosen.

It is important to note that selecting the appropriate characters for the show is also one of the most challenging tasks. The number of characters will depend on the size of the stage, as this will enhance effective communication between them. It is advisable to have as few as three for a small stage so that they dialogue better.

After you have identified all the characters and assigned roles, begin with a paragraph and give description of what is happening. At least create some obstacles for a few characters then formulate a resolution on how to overcome them. After the character names and roles, you need to give each of them words that will keep the conversation flowing.

Lastly, it is better to decide on where the scene breaks will take place and the sound effects. After you have made a conclusion on every element of the show, you can put it down into writing and further focus on producing a great performance ever. First, write a rough copy, proofread then edit before making the final script.
