"Pixels" was an interesting film when I first saw the trailer. I saw many different video game icons, ranging from Donkey Kong to Pac-Man, and I was curious to see just how well the filmmakers would put these licenses to use. However, as time went on, I found myself less and less enthused to see the film in question. Marketing can play a huge role in the success of a movie, though, and I have to wonder if fleet graphics could have changed things.
I am of the opinion that fleet graphics could have made a difference, no matter how minimal. According to companies the likes of JMR Graphics, these wraps are not only made with physical durability in mind, but the visual component cannot be overlooked either. Any business that has implemented these graphics in the past will not say differently. With that said, though, could "Pixels" have been helped by this reliable method of marketing?
I have to believe that fleet graphics could have had an impact. Consider the fact that many of the video game icons depicted in "Pixels" are ones that virtually anyone could recognize. These include - but are not limited to - Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, and the aliens from Space Invaders. They are easy enough to recognize and, as a result, could have made for tremendous graphics. However, I have a hard time believing that they could have made a long-term impact.
Once "Pixels" was released in theaters, it did not take long for the film in question to be met with negative press across the board. Adam Sandler movies - or films featuring the actor in question - have been received poorly as of late, as it seems like his brand of comedy has struggled to gain positive press. The writing in "Pixels" has been subpar as well, which leads me to believe that no cast could make the film work. More than anything else, "Pixels" is an interesting visual piece that will be soon forgotten.
Even though "Pixels" may not have benefited much from them, fleet graphics are likely to help many other brands as well. They can generate awareness to some of the highest levels, and the fact that they can promote a litany of products cannot be easily ignored. With that said, product quality matters, so make sure that your wares are up to par with expectations. If this proves to be the case, the aforementioned graphics will be nothing short of worthwhile.
