Summarized Fiction Writing Best Practice

By Young Lindsay

Most writers find it difficult to identify the starting point in their quest to come up with a novel. Fiction writing best practice is a collection of simple ideas that work for both amateurs and pros. Once you have begun the process, it becomes easier from one chapter to the other. These ideas have been used by award winning writers and proven effective.

Several things need to be clear in your mind before you write the first word. They include the characters and how they will interact with your plot. The subplots you come up with must add up into a watertight story. Your story must have a running theme that minds the setting, plot and characters into one bundle. Where then do you begin?

The entire process may be summarized into three main steps. They are planning, writing and revising. Planning requires that you create a point-form chat for what you are going to say in the entire book. This is very important since it forms the backbone of your project. Everything else done after that will heavily rely on the plan.

When you write, it is an opportunity to combine dialogue and prose in order to create something interesting for the reader. You will add substance to the sketch you generated at planning stage. It takes a lot of creativity to develop the best story.

Revision is the final stage in any process of developing a novel. It transforms poorly written and organized work but the lack of it will kill the most interesting story. The assistance of grammar and creative editors is vital when revising you work.

What motivates a writer determines the quality of the outcome. Some of the reasons include money and fame. Bestsellers result from passion to tell the interesting stories through fiction as the only option. Passion will determine your dedication and how meticulous you deliver the novel.

Every work of fiction relies on five pillars. They are character, plot, theme and symbolism, setting and viewpoint. All the points are intertwined and must never been treated otherwise. Each contributes towards shaping the other. This requires the writer to engage in a back and forth endeavor to fit these aspects into one story. Only a keen writer will produce a perfect balance of these vital aspects.

The theme makes you sensitive to the ideas that will be expounded in your novel. Understanding the theme helps you to choose sentences, words, setting and characters. It is your theme that will determine the protagonist and the antagonist. The theme also defines the way characters interact with situations and how situations shape the plot.

When planning, a list of characters should be generated beginning with the main ones and ending with the minor ones. Others will be developed as you write. A nice plot keeps the reader turning the pages. A comfortable environment is necessary to gain clarity of vision and concentration. You can write and rewrite your chapters before involving other people like editors. Revision requires the assistance of an independent person.
