Everything There Is To Know About Color Theory Paintings

By Raymond Gibson

People in the world appreciate the painting. They can buy it, pay to see it or even create paintings but either way the paintings impact the lives of many people. For someone who is looking to going into color theory paintings, there are a number of things you should be aware of. For example, red, blue and yellow are the primary colors in the painting and cannot be made by mixing different colors.

Most people only know the colors of the rainbow and think that they are the only ones in existence. However, there are a wide variety of colors, and they are categorized into different groups. First off, there are primary colors. These are the original colors and cannot be formed by mixing any other colors. Two primary colors put together to form a secondary color.

As far as primary colors are the most original colors, they come in diverse shades. These simply indicate there are different kinds of blue, red and yellow. Some colors are considered warmer than others. For example, a dull red color will always appear radiant than any shade of blue. Blue is considered a cool color in every shade.

The result you get after mixing two primary colors entirely depends on the mixing and amounts used. For example, in mixing red and orange, the amounts used for each color will determine the end result. If you put in redder than yellow the orange produced will be red-orange. When you put in more yellow than red, the color will be yellow-orange.

Although there is the option of mixing up colors instead of purchasing them, you should not entirely neglect to buy certain shades of color. This is because there are colors that can only be bought and cannot come up even when mixing is done. Another reason is the need to make the painting look similar in one way or the other. You may mix in different ratios and end up using up different shades.

Tertiary colors include the different shades of grey and different shades of brown. A tertiary color can come about by mixing all the primary colors or one primary color with a secondary color. The shade of grey or brown will appear different depending on the ration of the colors you mixed. The colors mixed up also determine the final outcome of the shade.

You should know that there are complimentary colors. The complimentary color of a primary color is the primary color left out when you mix the other two primary colors. Complementary colors are also there for secondary colors. These complimentary colors when placed next to each other appear to be brighter and more intense.

As you carry on with experiments, you should keep a record of all your discoveries. These save you a lot of time when you start to paint. You can easily mix paints in a short time because you have the right colors and ratios. You should learn all the transparent and opaque colors and how you can use them effectively.
