Doing something that you like most makes you complete as a person. Even if it is a job or a personal hobby, it makes you happy. Lindsay Merbaum feels the same way when it comes to writing. She is one heck of an author whose passion for writing is burning. Once you read one of her works, you will be wanting to read her other works.
She is a traveler and a free spirit by heart. She yearns and enjoys to travel different countries to learn more about their culture. By profession, she is a fiction writer, content creator and editor. She earned her Masteral Degree in Fine Arts at Brooklyn College. She got her chance of a lifetime, when she was awarded with a scholarship. She travelled to Lisbon to avail her Disquiet International Literary Program.
She earned her Masters Degree in Fine Arts at Brooklyn College. She was also a recipient of the Himan Brown Award in the same college. Himan Brown Award winners were determined through a writing competition, which first started in 2005. Lindsay was one of the first receivers of the award. Himan Brown, an influential radio producer founded the awards himself.
The MFA program at Brooklyn College is a small, highly personal two year program than confers a Master of Fine Arts degree in fiction, poetry and playwriting. It offers seminars, workshops and one on one tutorials. It stresses the importance between faculty and student relationship.
Lindsay, a known fiction writer is also an ex teacher. For four years, she taught English composition at a University in Quito, Ecuador. She wants to gain new experience and loves to travel so she grabbed the chance of living in the foreign country.
Four years after, she left Ecuador and settled in California. Her stories have received citations in the Best American Short Stories, and have been nominated in the South Award. They were also printed in most journals and magazines like the PANK, The Collagist, Dzanc Books Best, Gargoyle and Epiphany.
She would rather be in the company of books, reading till the wee hours of the night, than socializing with people. She grew up in the East Coast with an interest of fictional books, since she was young. She considers herself a home buddy, who loves to cook, listen to jazz music, or studying literature. That is if she is not so hooked up in a story.
She is currently working on her newest claims, The Wailing Room. The story takes place in a typical New York City luxury hotel, which offers privacy to their clients, but some dark secrets hidden in the closet. It narrates the story of Clymentera, a lovely employee with a split personality, and three guests of the hotel who are haunted with their painful past.
She loves writing novels with a suspense thriller theme. She feels her blood pumping wild while writing challenging and mysterious stories. She also gets inspiration from travelling in different places around the globe. She plans to travel again and learn different cultures. But, that would have to wait. She has a story to finish. Creating stories will always be with her. And even when she is old enough to have grandkids, she will still be writing.
