Anyone Who Likes Home Decor Should Try Decorative Painting Patterns

By Douglas Fisher

For a lot of people, holiday decorating can be a lot of fun. However, for those who like to save money or want something not found at most stores, there is a practical solution. Trying out decorative painting patterns that are dedicated to certain holidays can help transform a space without spending a fortune.

These patterns are reusable and ideal for those with a creative side. Windows, walls, and hard furnishings are ideal projects. However, those who like to recycle paper and paper products will find that old shipping boxes can be converted into functional crafts to be displayed around the house.

There are options, like using painting patterns on temporary, or removable, wallpaper that will not damage or affect the boring paint underneath. Placing accent borders near the top or bottom of a wall or a repeat pattern can add a nice touch to a space that lacks a lot of objects. Many people find that using pattern or templates gives more decorating options than using painters tape.

This type of painting is very easy because it may be done with any type of paint. Most find that acrylic is the ideal choice because it is the least expensive and can be used on various surfaces. It is also the easiest to correct, as it does not stain surfaces but a single coat dries quickly. Another advantage is that this type of paint is sold for less at most major discount retailers.

Watercolors are good for blending things like floral designs but will not show up on most furnishings or dark backgrounds. For those who do not care to spend a lot of time using a brush, there are some alternatives. When it comes to small details, spray paints may be of use, or for added texture, the sponge paint methods may work.

For those who are having a hard time making a decision, it may help to look at the current space and look at areas that may be in need of change. Maybe painting a tabletop makes more sense than buying another coffee or end table. Or a designated space may have a very nice lamp but it is the wrong color.

The best way to get around this is to buy a small set of acrylic paint in primary colors. Anyone who knows blending basics know that it is very easy to make green, purple, and orange using the small set only. Because these are fairly inexpensive, it may not hurt to buy large sizes of black, white, and maybe a set of metallic colors.

Other ideas for paints are to experiment with different textures. Spray paints are faster than brush strokes and advanced users may like to use an airbrush effect on their project. There are some spray paints that give surfaces a faux finish like crackle, marble, and stone. These come in many colors and may be used on everyday home decor.

These patterns also make it easier to add simple touches like glitter paint or a color that is hard to find. When visiting the paint section in hardware stores, it helps to look at the swatches and get a small can of a customized color. This can be made to match a chosen theme or something that will add contrast to an existing decor.
